Hate Graffiti Appears on San Diego Military Housing Playgrounds

San Diego, CA, September 30, 2026 —

Hateful chalk graffiti, including symbols such as swastikas and racial slurs, has been a recurring issue on playgrounds at Silver Strand military housing in San Diego for approximately two years. Residents have expressed concerns regarding the escalating frequency of these incidents and their impact on the perceived safety of the community spaces.

The incidents involve chalk markings, which are temporary by nature but carry a message of hate and intolerance. The specific types of graffiti reported include swastikas and racial slurs, which are considered deeply offensive and harmful.

Liberty Military Housing, which manages the Silver Strand housing facilities, has acknowledged awareness of the graffiti incidents. The Coronado Police Department is also involved, actively investigating the pattern of vandalism. Authorities are appealing to the public and residents for assistance, urging anyone possessing information related to the graffiti to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.

The duration of the issue, spanning about two years, indicates a persistent problem within the community. Residents’ reports suggest an increase in the frequency of these occurrences, leading to heightened anxiety about the environment children are exposed to in public play areas. Specific details regarding the exact dates of individual incidents, the total number of occurrences, or the outcomes of the investigation thus far have not been publicly disclosed. The contractor responsible for cleanup, if any, was not identified in available reports.
