Retired Air Force colonel and counterterrorism expert discusses enduring legacy of Sept. 11 attacks on 25th anniversary

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dr. Ron Scott, president and CEO of Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services (STARRS), is featured in a special 9/11 video podcast produced by Dr. Rob Ferguson examining the enduring legacy of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The program, titled “9/11 Memorium: STARRS (Video Version),” features Ferguson in a discussion with Scott, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, about Scott’s experience and perspective as a counterterrorism expert and the lessons America should remember from the attacks 25 years later.

“It was truly an honor to be invited by Dr. Ferguson to participate in this important documentary and to share my perspective on a day that forever changed our nation,” Scott said. “For those of us who served during that period and worked in the national security arena, 9/11 was much more than a historic event. Its consequences shaped our military, our national security priorities and an entire generation of Americans. Twenty-five years later, it remains vitally important that we remember what happened, honor those we lost and continue to learn from it.”

During the program, Ferguson and Scott discuss Scott’s role and experience as a counterterrorism expert and explore the enduring legacy of 9/11, including its impact on the military, national security and the nation.

The discussion comes as the United States marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, when nearly 3,000 people were killed in terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia and aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Scott said the anniversary also underscores the importance of ensuring younger generations understand the attacks’ significance and the response that followed.

“An entire generation has now grown up without a personal memory of Sept. 11,” Scott said. “Those of us who experienced that period have a responsibility to tell the story, preserve its lessons and remember the courage, sacrifice and unity Americans demonstrated in its aftermath.”

Scott served more than three decades in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1973. His military career included extensive experience in national security, strategy, policy and counterterrorism. He retired at the rank of colonel.

Today, Scott leads STARRS, a Colorado Springs-based nonprofit organization dedicated to educating Americans about issues affecting the U.S. armed forces and advocating for a military focused on readiness, merit, unit cohesion and its constitutional mission.
